'Agsantis' is vegetatively propagated, annual ageratum variety. The growth habit is bushy rounded and there is a high degree of branching. The stem is thin, light green in colour and has strong anthocyanin colouration and dense pubescence.
The leaves are simple, ovate in shape and have an obtuse shaped apex. The base is obtuse to cordate in shape and the margin is crenate and serrate. There is no pubescence on the upper side and sparse pubescence on the lower side. The leaf blade is medium green in colour on the upper side and there is no variegation.
The pedicel has weak to medium anthocyanin colouration and has medium pubescence. The florets are arranged in a compound umbel with a low to medium number of florets per inflorescence. The disc florets are violet blue in colour, linear in shape and have an obtuse shaped apex.
Origin & Breeding History: 'Agsantis' resulted from the cross between Q250-1 and Q295-1, made in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands in 1998. Both parents were white flowering varieties with compact growth habits.
Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Agsantis' were conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2003 in St. Thomas, Ontario. Trials included a total of 15 plants of each variety. Plants were grown from unrooted cuttings, rooted May 30, 2003 (week 22) and transplanted into 11cm pots on July 8, 2003. All colour characteristics were determined using the 2001 RHS colour chart and measured characteristics were based on ten plant measurements.
