Variety Description
Variety used for comparison: 'Agsantis'
Summary: 'Agpatblu' differs from 'Agsantis' mainly in plant height, flower diameter before and after dehiscence, and number of flowers per inflorescence. The plants of 'Agpatblu' are taller than those of 'Agsantis'. The flowers of 'Agpatblu' are wider before and after dehiscence and have more flowers per inflorescence than those of 'Agsantis'.
Description:
PLANT: annual, upright-bushy growth habit, dense branching
STEM: light green, no anthocyanin, dense pubescence, medium thickness
LEAF: simple, cordate shape, cuspidate apex, cordate base, crenate margins with cuspidate tips, weak blistering, medium pubescence on upper and lower surfaces, medium green on upper surface, no variegation, petiole present
FLOWER: inflorescence, no anthocyanin on pedicel
DISC FLORETS: blue-violet
Origin & Breeding History: 'Agpatblu' originated from a cross made in September 2001, in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands, between the female parent, 'W43-2' and the male parent, 'W43-3'. In August 2002, one plant was selected from the resultant progeny for branching, flower and foliage size. Asexual reproduction of the new variety began in September 2002 in Enkhuizen, The Netherlands.
Tests & Trials: The tests and trials for 'Agpatblu' were conducted in a polyhouse at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario during the spring of 2006. The trials included 15 plants of each variety. Rooted cuttings were transplanted into 15 cm pots on April 13, 2006. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety. All colour measurements were made using the RHS colour chart 2001.
