Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Starexan'

Summary: 'Stasach' has a moderate intensity of anthocyanin colouration of the umbel branches while 'Starexan' has strong anthocyanin. The outer tepals for 'Stasach' are red in colour with no stripes while those for 'Starexan' are darker red in colour with a few stripes. 'Stasach' has a moderate number of small stripes on the inner side of the inner lateral tepals while 'Starexan' has a large number of medium sized stripes.

Description:

'Stasach' is a cut flower alstroemeria. The stems are medium in thickness and foliage on the stem is medium to dense. The leaf blade is narrow-ovate in shape and recurved along the longitudinal axis of the blade.

The inflorescence has a small number of umbel branches which have moderate intensity of anthocyanin colouration. The florets are small to medium in size with a medium spread of the tepals. Emargination on the outer tepals is shallow in depth. The main colour of the inner side of the outer tepals is red in colour and there are no stripes. The inner tepals are elliptic in shape. The middle zone on the inner side of the inner lateral tepals is yellow-orange in colour. There are a moderate number of small stripes on the inner side of the inner lateral tepals. The stamen filaments have no spots and they are red in colour. At the start of dehiscence, the anthers are purplish in colour. The pistil has strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration on the ovary and there are no spots present on the stigma.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Stasach' originated from the controlled pollination of the seed parent 85T305-1 and the pollen parent 86F679-1. The cross was made in Aalsmeer, The Netherlands in 1989. A single plant was selected for flower colour and form.

Tests & Trials: Trials for 'Stasach' were conducted in a plastic tunnel under local climate conditions in Langley, British Columbia in 2001. The trials consisted of twenty (20) plants per variety grown in 25 cm pots and supported by overhead wires. The plants were spaced at a density of four (4) plants per meter square. Unless otherwise indicated, the measured characteristics were based on ten (10) measurements.
