Origin & Breeding History: In May 1996, 'Ibiza' as the female parent and 'Aurea' mix as the male parent were crossed at Wateringen, The Netherlands. In October 1996, 9 seedlings were obtained from that cross, grown in pots in a glasshouse and evaluated. In May 1997, one seedling was selected based on its growth habit, flower size and colour. The selected plant was propagated in vitro and grown in pots in a trial from April 1999 to November 2000 at Wateringen where it was examined and named 'Etna'. The breeders reference for this variety is etna (te 033-1).

Tests & Trials: The detailed description is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, CPVO reference number 2001/1982, application number INC 758, grant number 12743, purchased from the CPVO, Angers, France. The trials were conducted by the CGN Plant Variety Research, WOT-unit, Wageningen, The Netherlands in 2003.
