Origin & Breeding History: 'Cartbas Depink' was developed by the breeder, Ralph T. Perkins, an employee of Goldsmith Seeds, Inc., in Gilroy, California, as part of a planned pedigree breeding progam. The new variety originated from a cross made in November 2001, with the female parent 25-2, a proprietary line with rose coloured flowers, and the male parent 60-1, a proprietary line with purple and white flowers. The resultant F1 seed was sown in a greenhouse in April 2002. In July 2002 a single plant from the F1 progeny was selected based on flower colour, form and plant habit.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Cartbas Depink' were conducted in a polyhouse during the summer 2005, in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 15 plants of each variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings, transplanted into 15 cm pots on June 10, 2005. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety on July 4, 2005. All colour measurements were made using the 2001 RHS Colour Chart.
