Origin & Breeding History: 'Cas Lavener' originated from a cross between the female parent '432-1' and the male parent '421-3' conducted by the breeder Ralph T. Perkins, in September 2003, as part of a planned breeding program. The resultant seed was sown in a greenhouse in March 2006. In June 2006, a single plant from the progeny was selected by the breeder based on flower colour and plant growth habit.
Tests & Trials: Trials for 'Cas Lavener' were conducted in a polyhouse during the spring/summer of 2009 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 15 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 11 cm pots on April 28, 2009. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety on June 11, 2009. All colour determinations were made using the 2001 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
