Description:

TREE: medium vigour, ramified type, drooping growth habit, fruit bearing on spurs and long shoots, begins flowering early to mid-season, late fruit harvest and eating maturity
ONE-YEAR-OLD SHOOT: medium thickness, medium length internode, medium brown on side facing sun, medium density pubescence on distal half, medium to many lenticels

PETIOLE: medium to long, small to medium extent of anthocyanin colouration from base
LEAF BLADE: outwards attitude in relation to shoot, long, medium width, medium to large length to width ratio, medium intensity of green on upper side, serrate type 1 incisions of margin on distal half, dense pubescence on lower side

FLOWER: predominantly dark pink at balloon stage, medium diameter with petals pressed into horizontal position, intermediate arrangement of petals, stigmas positioned above anthers
YOUNG FRUIT: small to medium extent of anthocyanin over colour
FRUIT: medium to large, tall, medium to large diameter, medium to large height to diameter ratio, globose shape, absent or weak degree of ribbing, absent or weak crowning at calyx end, long to very long sepal
FRUIT SKIN: moderate bloom, absent or weak degree of greasiness, yellow ground colour, large relative area of over colour, medium to dark red over colour with a weakly defined flush and strongly defined stripes, medium width stripes, absent or small area of russet around stalk attachment, absent or small area of russet on cheeks, absent or small area of russet around eye basin, many medium to large lenticels

Origin & Breeding History: 'Regal 13-82' originated from a controlled cross between varieties ‘Braeburn' as the female parent, and ‘Honeycrisp' as the male parent, conducted in Ephrata, Washington, USA in 2004. In 2007, the resulting fruit was observed, and ‘Regal 13-82' was selected in Ephrata, Washington based on fruit attributes such as appearance and texture, as well as commercial storability. Selections were budded onto M-26 rootstocks and trees planted in the same orchard in Ephrata, Washington.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of ‘Regal 13-82' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20193224, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Institut national de recherche pour l'agriculture, l'alimentation et l'environnement in Beaucouzé, France between March 1, 2021, and December 31, 2024.
