Summary: The sepal on the fruit of 'Fengapi' is very long whereas it is medium to long for 'Cripps Red' and long for 'Rosy Glow'. The eye basin on the fruit of 'Fengapi' is of a shallow to medium depth whereas the eye basin of 'Rosy Glow' is medium to deep. When the bloom is removed, the fruit of 'Fengapi' has a red over colour whereas the fruit of 'Cripps Red' has a purple red over colour and that of 'Rosy Glow' has a pink red over colour. The harvest date for 'Fengapi' is mid-season to late in the season whereas the harvest date for 'Cripps Red' is very late in the season.

TREE: medium to strong vigour, ramified type, drooping growth habit, fruit bearing both on spurs and long shoots, begins flowering mid-season, time for harvest is mid-season to late in the season, time for eating maturity is very late in the season
ONE-YEAR-OLD SHOOT: medium to thick, medium to long internode, reddish brown on side exposed to sunlight, strong degree of pubescence on distal half, many lenticels
PETIOLE: medium length, small extent of anthocyanin colouration from base
LEAF BLADE: outwards attitude in relation to shoot, medium length, medium to broad, medium length to width ratio, medium to dark intensity of green on upper side, bicrenate incisions of margin on distal half, glabrous to weak density pubescence on lower side
FLOWER: predominantly dark pink at balloon stage, medium to large diameter with petals pressed into horizontal position, intermediate arrangement of petals, stigmas positioned at same level as anthers
YOUNG FRUIT: small to medium extent of anthocyanin over colour

Origin & Breeding History: 'Fengapi' originated from a controlled cross between 'Gala' and 'Pink Rose' in Codevigo, Italy in January 2000. 'Fengapi' was selected for further propagation and testing based on fruit appearance and flavour.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Fengapi' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number APF 694, purchased from the Bundessortenamt, Hannover, Germany. The trials were conducted by the Bundessortenamt in Prüfstelle, Germany, in 2017-2018.
