Origin & Breeding History: Gala MGCP' was discovered as a whole plant mutation of the variety GALA MITCHGLA' at an orchard in Grey Highlands, Ontario, Canada in 2013. The variety was selected based on the timing of fruit colouration, as well as the area and pattern of the over colour of the fruit skin. Graft wood of the mutation was made virus-free and new trees produced in the spring of 2016, with 4 generations propagated since the initial discovery.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of Gala MGCP' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20182943, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the Institut national de recherche pour l'agriculture, l'alimentation et l'environnement in Beaucouzé, France between March 1, 2019, and December 31, 2024.
