Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Zouk 29'

Summary: The overcolour pattern on the fruit skin of ‘Ipador' is only a solid flush while that of ‘Zouk 29' is flushed, striped and mottled. The lenticels on the fruit skin of ‘Ipador' are medium to large while those of ‘Zouk 29' are small. The time of eating maturity of ‘Ipador' is very late while it is medium to late for ‘Zouk 29'.

Description:

TREE: strong vigour, ramified, spreading growth habit, bearing fruit on spurs and long shoots, begins flowering mid-season to late, late to very late harvest maturity, very late eating maturity

ONE-YEAR-OLD SHOOT: medium to thick, medium to long internode length, side facing sun is medium brown, dense pubescence on distal half, many lenticels

PETIOLE: medium length, medium to large extent of anthocyanin colouration extending from base
LEAF BLADE: upwards attitude in relation to shoot, medium length, narrow to medium width, medium to large length to width ratio, light to medium intensity of green on upper side, serrate type 1 incisions of margin along distal half, absent or weak density of pubescence on lower side

FLOWER: predominantly purple at balloon stage, medium diameter when petals pressed into horizontal position, overlapping arrangement of petals, stigmas positioned above anthers
YOUNG FRUIT: medium to large extent of anthocyanin over colour
FRUIT: large, medium to tall, medium to large diameter, medium height to diameter ratio, conic shape, strong degree of ribbing, strong degree of crowning at calyx end, long sepal

Origin & Breeding History: 'Ipador' originated from a cross between 'Goldrush' and 'Nicoter' made in April 2002 in Rillaar, Belgium. 'Ipador' was selected after the harvest of 2008 and was further propagated and tested. Asexual reproduction of 'Ipador' was performed by grafting onto rootstocks in the winter of 2008 to 2009. It was selected for its storability, scab resistance, and flavour.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of ‘Ipador' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 20183058, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trials were conducted by the Bundessortenamt in Hannover, Germany from 2021 to 2022.
