Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: '4starvan' (Vanilla Butterfly)

Summary: The plants of 'G14420' are dense while the plants of '4starvan' are of medium density. The lateral lobe of the leaf is wider for 'G14420' than for '4starvan'. The peduncle of 'G14420' is shorter than the peduncle of '4starvan'. The marginal incisions of the lateral lobe of the leaf are deep for 'G14420' while they are shallow to medium depth for '4starvan'. The colour of the upper side of the ray floret is white for 'G14420' while the upper side of the ray floret of '4starvan' is lighter than yellow green when newly open and white when fully open and when aged.

STEM: no anthocyanin colouration

LEAF (UPPER SIDE): brown green (RHS 137B-C)
LATERAL LOBE OF LEAF: deep marginal incisions

FLOWER HEAD: semi-double type
RAY FLORET: straight along longitudinal axis, white (RHS NN155C) on upper side, white (RHS NN155D) on lower side
DISC: yellow orange (close to RHS 17A) after anther dehiscence

Origin & Breeding History: 'G14420' was bred and developed by the breeder, Irene E. Palmer, an employee of GardenGenetics LLC, Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, USA. It originated from an induced mutation of the variety 'Butterfly' on May 29, 2014. 'G14420' was selected on the basis of flower colour in July 2014. Asexual reproduction of 'G14420' was first conducted by vegetative cuttings on November 17, 2014, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, USA.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'G14420' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring of 2017 at Bioflora Inc., in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 15 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. The plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 11.5 cm pots on April 14, 2017. The observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or 10 parts of plants, of each variety, on June 8, 2017. All colour determinations were made using the Royal Horticultural Society`s (RHS) 2007 Colour Chart.
