Origin & Breeding History: 'BID16101' originated from a controlled cross conducted by the breeder, Thomas Psenner, of Bozen, Italy. The cross was made between the female parent variety 'BID719' and male parent variety 'BID15054' in June 2015 in Bozen, Italy. From the resulting progeny, 'BID16101' was selected in May 2016 as a single seedling for its hanging plant growth habit, flower size, flower colour and poor seed set. 'BID16101' was first propagated by vegetative tip cuttings in September 2016 in Bozen, Italy.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'BID16101' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2020 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 20 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. Plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15cm pots on April 17, 2020. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety on June 4, 2020. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
