Summary: The plants of 'OBF0604' have strong vigour whereas the plants of 'Bluecrop' have a medium amount of vigour. The leaf blade of 'OBF0604' is larger than the leaf blade of 'Bluecrop'. 'OBF0604' has a small corolla tube whereas 'Bluecrop' has a medium to large corolla tube. The sweetness of the fruit of 'OBF0604' is low whereas the sweetness of the fruit of 'Bluecrop' is high.

PLANT: strong vigour, semi-upright growth habit, fruits on one-year-old shoots only, flowering begins mid-season, fruit ripening begins mid-season
ONE-YEAR-OLD SHOOT: dark red, medium internode length
LEAF: large length to width ratio, ovate shape, medium to dark green on upper side, serrate margin
FLOWER BUD: medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration, early bud burst
COROLLA: urceolate to campanulate shape
COROLLA TUBE: small with ridges, absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration
FRUIT: dense cluster, dark green unripe fruit, large, oblate in longitudinal section, strong intensity of bloom, medium blue skin, firm, low sweetness, low acidity
Origin & Breeding History: 'OBF0604' (experimental number '06-04') resulted from an open pollinated cross between unnamed highbush blueberry plants in 2007 at the Northern Highbush Blueberry Breeding Program in Silverton, Oregon. The resulting seed of '06-04' was planted in 2008. '06-04' was asexually propagated by softwood cuttings for further testing. Section criteria was for berry firmness, colour, storage life, and machine harvestability.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'OBF0604' was conducted by Expert Agriculture Team Ltd., in Chilliwack, British Columbia during the 2017 and 2018 growing seasons. Each variety consisted of 3 replicates with 3 plants per replicate for a total of 9 plants of each variety. Plants were spaced approximately 76 cm apart within rows and 3 metres between rows. Measurements were taken from 9 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety.
