Summary: The plants of 'ZF08-029' have very strong vigour whereas the plants of the reference varieties have medium vigour. The one year old shoot of 'ZF08-029' is greenish red whereas the one year old shoot of the reference varieties is green. The flower of 'ZF08-029' has a blue receptacle whereas the flower of 'Draper' has a green receptacle. The flower bud of 'ZF08-029' has a very strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration whereas the flower bud of 'Legacy' has a weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration. The corolla of 'ZF08-029' is ovoid shaped whereas the corolla of 'Legacy' is ellipsoid shaped and that of 'Draper' is globose shaped.
Description:
PLANT: very strong vigour, semi-upright growth habit, fruiting on one-year-old shoots only, first vegetative bud burst begins early
ONE-YEAR-OLD SHOOT: greenish red, short to medium internode length along upper half
LEAF: medium length to width ratio, elliptic shape, dark green colour on upper side, medium glaucosity on upper side, entire margin
FLOWERING: begins early on one-year-old shoots
RECEPTACLE: blue
FLOWER BUD: very strong intensity of anthocyanin colouration
COROLLA: ovoid shape
COROLLA TUBE: medium to large, white, medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration on outer side, strong conspicuousness of ridges
INFRUCTESCENCE: sparse to medium density
UNRIPE FRUIT: medium green (with bloom), fruit ripening begins early to mid season on one-year-old shoots
FRUIT: medium sized, circular in longitudinal section, deep calyx basin, medium firmness, high sweetness, medium to high acidity
FRUIT SKIN: weak to medium bloom intensity, dark blue skin (after removal of bloom)

Origin & Breeding History: 'ZF08-029' originated from a controlled cross between the varieties 'G-344', as the female parent, and 'Draper', as the male parent, made in 2004 in Lowell, Oregon, USA. 'ZF08-029' was selected in 2008 from the resulting progeny for fruit size, firmness, and flavour. Propagation was conducted by softwood cuttings and further tested in 2009.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'ZF08-029' was conducted by Expert Agriculture Team Ltd., in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada during the 2022 growing season. One year old plants were transplanted in April 2021 into raised beds, covered with plastic and irrigated with drip lines. The plots were arranged in an RBC design with 4 replicates. Each replicate consisted of 3 plants for a total of 12 plants of each variety. Plants were spaced approximately 90 centimetres apart within rows with 3 metres between rows. Measurements were taken from 10 plants or parts of 10 plants of each variety. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
