Origin & Breeding History: 'Pink Micro Chip' originated from a controlled cross conducted at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, in July 2009. The cross was made between the female parent variety 'Lilac Chip' and the male parent variety 'Miss Molly'. The new variety was selected in July 2010 in Jackson Springs, North Carolina based on its growth habit, branch strength, flower colour, flowering time, female sterility and cold temperature hardiness. Asexual propagation by softwood and semi-hardwood stem cuttings of 'Pink Micro Chip' was first conducted in August 2010 in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Pink Micro Chip' was conducted in an outdoor irrigated container trial during the spring and summer of 2016, at Bioflora Inc., in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 12 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from 10 cm rooted liners and transplanted into 9 litre containers on July 6, 2015. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants of each variety on August 4, 2016. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
