Origin & Breeding History: 'Miss Pearl' was bred and developed by the breeder Dennis James Werner, an employee of North Carolina State University, in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. It originated from a controlled cross conducted in July 2009 between the female parent variety 'Ice Chip' and the male parent variety 'Miss Molly' at the Horticultural Field Laboratory Greenhouses in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA. On June 21, 2011, 'Miss Pearl' was selected at the Sandhills Research Station in Jackson Springs, North Carolina based on its compact plant growth habit, dense foliage, branching and flower colour. The first asexual propagation of 'Miss Pearl' was conducted by semi-hardwood stem cuttings in July 2015 in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Miss Pearl' was conducted in a polyhouse during the spring and summer of 2018 and 2019 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 16 plants of the candidate variety and 8 plants of the reference variety. All plants were grown from 11.5 cm rooted liners and transplanted into 13.5 litre containers on August 24, 2018. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of each variety on July 18, 2019. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
