The initial crosses in the development of the parental varieties were conducted in 1996 with final selections completed in 2010 based on plant vigour, plant growth habit, petiole length and colour, leaf colour and time of maturity. Male sterility was backcrossed and fixed into the maternal line between 2010 and 2015. The initial hybrid cross was made in 2016 with elite parental seed being used for hybrid seed production in 2018. All breeding in the development of 'Verve' was conducted in Spalding, United Kingdom.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description for 'Verve' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number KWI788, purchased from the Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, the Netherlands.
