Variety Description
Variety used for comparison: 'PKMTAK1'
Summary: The plants of 'PKMTAK2' are narrow while those of 'PKMTAK1' are broad to very broad. The stem of 'PKMTAK2' is green tinged with purple whereas the stem of 'PKMTAK1' is purple. The outer side of the corolla tube of 'PKMTAK2' is white while it is violet for 'PKMTAK1'.
Description:
PLANT: semi-erect growth habit, sparse to medium branching, short, narrow
RHIZOMES: medium vigour
STEM: medium density of pubescence, rounded in cross-section, green tinged with purple
PETIOLE: short to medium length
LEAF BADE: medium length, medium width, low length to width ratio, acute tip, rounded base, widest towards base, weakly convex in cross-section, strong toothing of margin, medium undulation of margin, upper side is medium green, medium rugosity of upper side, weak glossiness of upper side, sparse pubescence of upper side
CALYX: no petaloid lobes, angle of lobes somewhat spreading
COROLLA: natural attitude is moderately downwards, tubular form, only one whorl, small diameter, long
COROLLA LOBE: moderately ovate shape, very short to short, very narrow to narrow at widest point, weak reflexing, no twisting, mid-point in cross section is weakly concave, central furrow on inner side is moderately creased, obtuse tip, colour of outer side is not markedly different from outer side of corolla tube, inner side is white (RHS NN155C) with spots of blue pink (RHS 186C)
COROLLA TUBE: length relative to the corolla length is long, short to medium length, when viewed in profile sides of tube are parallel sided towards opening, narrow opening, outer and inner side is white (RHS NN155C), secondary colour of inner side is brown purple (RHS N186D) distributed as spots throughout tube
Origin & Breeding History: 'PKMTAK2' originated from a breeding program with the objective of developing new Campanula varieties with compact growth habit, greater floriferousness and more colourful flowers. A cross was conducted by the breeder in Sohus, Denmark between the two unnamed proprietary seedlings, Campanula takesimana '21.01.0083' and Campanula punctata '39.00.3010', in March 2009. 'PKMTAK2' was selected in April 2011.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'PKMTAK2' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2012/1162, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trials were conducted by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany in Cambridge, United Kingdom in 2013. Colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
