Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'PKMTAK1'

Summary: The plants of 'PKMTAK3' are dense while those of 'PKMTAK1' are of sparse to medium density. The stems of 'PKMTAK3' are purple while those of 'PKMTAK1' are green tinged with purple. The colour of the outer side of the corolla tube of 'PKMTAK3' is dark purple red while that of 'PKMTAK1' is violet.

RHIZOMES: strong vigour
STEM: sparse pubescence, ribbed in cross-section, purple

PETIOLE: short
LEAF: long, broad to very broad, very small to small length to width ratio, obtuse tip, rounded base, widest point towards base, weakly concave in cross-section, strong dentation of the margin, strong undulation of the margin, medium green on upper side, strong rugosity, medium glossiness on upper side, no pubescence on upper side

CALYX: no petaloid lobes, lobes are adpressed to corolla
COROLLA: attitude is downwards, tubular shape, only one whorl, small diameter, medium to long
COROLLA LOBE: broadly triangular shape, short, medium degree of reflexing, no twisting, mid-point in cross section is weakly concave, central furrow on inner side is weak, acuminate tip
COROLLA TUBE: length relative to corolla length is long, short to medium length, parallel sided, narrow mouth, outer side dark purple red (RHS 187D) with white (RHS NN155A) stripes along veins throughout, inner side white (RHS N155B) with brown purple (RHS N186D) spots throughout

Origin & Breeding History: The variety 'PKMTAK3' originated from a cross between two unnamed proprietary selections, Campanula taksimana '21.01.0083' and Campanula punctata '39.00.3010', in Sohus, Denmark in March 2009. The resulting seedlings were selected in April 2011 based on their compact growth habit and white flowers.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'PKMTAK3' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2013/1540, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trials were conducted by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany in Cambridge, United Kingdom in 2014. Colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
