STEM: medium to long, medium length up to the first branch, branching on primary stem at the base, semi-erect branch attitude, thin to medium diameter, medium to many branches

LEAF: weak undulation of margins at rosette stage, absent or very sparse pubescence on upper side, medium length, narrow to medium width, medium to large length to width ratio

FLOWER: pale yellow
SILICLE: medium length, medium to dense compactness, pyriform shape, semi-erect attitude
PEDICEL: short to medium length, semi-erect attitude

AGRONOMY: fair to good resistance to lodging

Origin & Breeding History: 'SES0787LS' (experimental designation 13CS0787-08) originated from reciprocal crosses between 09CS0041 and 07CS0003-086 in January 2010 at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research farm in Beaverlodge, Alberta. The resulting F1 seeds, designated as 10CS0056 and 10CS0057, were planted in the greenhouse at Beaverlodge in March 2010 (150 for 10CS0056 and 200 for 10CS0057) and the F2 seeds were harvested and bulked in May 2010. In the summer of 2010, F2 plants were grown in the field in a single plant pull block and 632 F2 plants were harvested individually. In 2011, the F3 seeds were grown in double rows in a nursery at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research farm in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In total, 78 F3 families were selected based on agronomic and seed quality criteria and of each selected family, 10 plants were harvested individually. In 2012, F4 progeny rows were grown and 5 plants were harvested individually from the 66 plots selected on the basis of agronomic characteristics and seed quality. In 2013, these F5 families were grown in double rows in a nursery at the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada Research farm in Saskatoon. A total of 18 F5 families were then selected on the basis of agronomic performance and seed quality and were evaluated in preliminary replicated yield trials in 2014. The F6 seeds, harvested by hand from the middle of each nursery plot, were used for breeder seed increases in Saskatoon and Lethbridge, Alberta. The line designated as 13CS0787-08 was selected from yield trials evaluated in 2014 and 2015.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'SES0787LS', conducted during the 2016 and 2017 growing seasons at the Ag-Quest Research Station in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, were planted in a RCB design with 2 replications per variety. Each 9 metre squared plot consisted of 6 rows 6 metres in length with a spacing of 0.20 metres between rows. Measurements were taken from 60 plants or 60 parts of plants of each variety except for the thousand kernel weight where one sample was measured per replicate per variety per year. Mean differences were significant at the 5% probability level based on LSD values.
