Description:
'PPS01-137 B-line' is an open pollinated spring canola variety that is the maintainer line for 'PPS01-137 A-line. The cotyledons are medium to wide in width and medium in length. Leaf blades are light green in colour with few lobes. The leaf margin is rounded with a low density of dentations that are shallow in depth. The leaves are short to medium in length with a medium width and a short to medium length petiole. The yellow flower petals are medium to long in length and medium to wide in width. The horizontal siliques are medium in length and medium to wide in width with a short beak and medium length pedicel. The plants are medium in height at maturity. Seed colour is black. 'PPS01-137 B-line' has low erucic acid content and very low glucosinolates. 'PPS01-137 B-line' is susceptible to glufosinate ammonium herbicides.
Origin & Breeding History: 'PPS01-137 B-line' is a male fertile maintainer line for 'PPS01-137 A-line' in the process of F1 hybrid production. 'PPS01-137 B-line' is a doubled haploid line 98-48-069 extracted from the F1 generation of the cross 97CGH398/97CGH403. 'PPS01-137 B-line' was selected in 1999 on the basis of height, vigor, maturity, blackleg resistance, oil content, fatty acid profile, and glucosinolate content. Breeder seed production commenced in 2002.
Tests & Trials: Tests and trials were conducted at the Bayer CropScience facility in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2003, 2004. Plots consisted of 3 rows 6 meters in length with 50 cm row spacing. There were 2 replications laid out in a RCB design.
