Summary: 'PPS02-144 B-line' has more leaf lobes than 'Sprint'. The flower petal of 'PPS02-144 B-line' is longer than in 'Westar'. 'PPS02-144 B-line' has a wider flower petal than 'Sprint', 'Westar', and '2733'. The silique of 'PPS02-144 B-line' is wider than in '2733'. 'PPS02-144 B-line' has a longer beak than '2733' and 'Westar'. 'PPS02-144 B-line' is not resistant to glufosinate ammonium (Liberty) while '2733' is.
Description:
'PPS02-144 B-line' is an inbred spring canola variety . The cotyledons have medium width and are medium to long in length. Leaf blades are medium green in colour with few number of lobes. The leaf margin is sharp with a low to medium density of dentations that are shallow in depth. The leaves are medium in length and medium to wide in width, with a short to medium petiole. The yellow flower petals are medium to long in length and wide. The horizontal siliques are short to medium in length, wide in width with a medium to long beak and medium length pedicel. The plants are medium in height. Seed colour is black. 'PPS02-144 B-line' has low erucic acid content and high glucosinolates. 'PPS02-144 B-line' is not resistant to glufosinate ammonium herbicides.
Origin & Breeding History: 'PPS02-144 B-line' is a male fertile maintainer line of 'PPS02-144 A-line'. 'PPS02-144 B-line' is a doubled haploid line of 98-55-013. Doubled haploid line 98-55-013 was extracted from F1 generation derived from cross 97CGH406 / 97CGH409. 'PPS02-144 B-line' was selected in 1999 on the basis of per se performance, height, vigour, maturity, black leg resistance, oil content, fatty acid profile, and glucosinolates content. Breeder seed production commenced in the 2002 season.
Tests & Trials: Tests and trials were conducted at the Bayer CropScience facility in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2002, 2003. Plots consisted of 3 rows 6 meters in length with 50 cm row spacing. There were 2 replications laid out in a RCB design.
