Summary: 'PPS02-182' has a narrower cotyledon than '2733' and 'Quantum'. The cotyledon of 'PPS02-182' is shorter than in '2733'. 'PPS02-182' has more leaf lobes than 'Quantum'. The leaf petiole of 'PPS02-182' is longer than in 'Quantum'. The silique of 'PPS02-182' is shorter than in 'Quantum'. 'PPS02-182' is not resistant to glufosinate ammonium (Liberty) while '2733' is.

Description:

'PPS02-182' is an open pollinated spring canola variety. The cotyledons are narrow to medium in width, and medium in length. Leaf blades are medium green in colour with a medium number of lobes. The leaf margin is rounded with a low density of dentations that are shallow in depth. The leaves are long, and medium to wide in width, with a long petiole. The yellow flower petals are medium in length and width. The semi-erect to horizontal siliques are short to medium in length, narrow to medium in width, with a short to medium beak and pedicel length. The plants are medium to tall in height. Seed colour is black. 'PPS02-182' has very low erucic acid content and very low glucosinolates. 'PPS02-182' is not resistant to glufosinate ammonium herbicides.

Origin & Breeding History: 'PPS02-182' was derived from cross PGS1805 / 97CGH403 using pedigree selection and inbreeding. 'PPS02-182' was selected in 2000 on the basis of per se performance, height, vigour, maturity, blackleg resistance, oil content, fatty acid profile, and glucosinolates content. Breeder seed production of 'PPS02-182' commenced in the 2002 season.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials were conducted at the Bayer CropScience facility in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2002, 2003. Plots consisted of 3 rows 6 meters in length with 50 cm row spacing. There were 2 replications laid out in a RCB design.
