Description:

'PPS02-364' is a inbred spring canola variety containing the bar and barstar genes. The cotyledons are medium in width and length. Leaf blades are dark green in colour with a medium number of lobes. The leaf margin is sharp with a low to medium density of dentations that are shallow in depth. The leaves are medium in length, and medium to wide in width with short to medium length petiole. The yellow flower petals are medium in length and narrow to medium in width. The semi-erect to horizontal siliques are medium in length and narrow to medium in width with a medium beak and pedicel length. The plants are medium in height. Seed colour is black. 'PPS02-364' has low erucic acid content and very low glucosinolates. 'PPS02-364' is resistant to glufosinate ammonium herbicides.

Origin & Breeding History: 'PPS02-364' is a restorer line in the process of F1 hybrid production. 'PPS02-364' was derived as a doubled haploid line 99-97-099 containing the Rf3 gene in homozygous state. The crosses and doubled haploid line extraction were made in Canada in 1999. The pedigree of 'PPS02-364' is 99NN101205 / 99NN101205. 'PPS02-364' was selected in 2001 on the basis of fertility restoration of numerous male sterile lines and expression of tolerance to glufosinate ammonium herbicide. Other selection parameters included height, vigour, maturity, blackleg resistance, oil content, fatty acid profile, glucosinolate content and combining ability. Breeder seed production commenced in the 2002 season.

Tests & Trials: Tests and trials were conducted at the Bayer CropScience facility in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 2002, 2003. Plots consisted of 3 rows 6 meters in length with 50 cm row spacing. There were 2 replications laid out in a RCB design.
