Origin & Breeding History: 'UA BountyGold' (experimental designation A05-17NI) originated from a cross made in 2001 between the varieties, 99-23663NA and 00-22066NI at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta. Doubled haploid lines, produced from the F1 plants, were tested in a field nursery in 2003 and 19 lines were selected based on vigor, time of flowering, maturity, resistance to lodging, plant height and seed quality traits. In 2004, the 19 lines were tested in multi-location replicated yield trials as well as for blackleg disease resistance. Seed increase of these lines was initiated concurrently. Based on seed yield, herbicide tolerance, agronomic and seed quality traits, eight lines were selected for further testing in Private Coop trials in 8 locations in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba in 2005. One of these lines was designated as A05-17NI. In 2006, A05-17NI was tested in Public Coop trials and was recommended for registration by the Western Canadian Canola/Rapeseed Recommending Committee in 2007.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'UA BountyGold' conducted during the 2016 and 2019 growing seasons at the Ag-Quest Research Station in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan were arranged in a RCB design with 2 replications per variety. The plots consisted of 6 rows that were 6 metres in length with a spacing of 20 cm between rows. The measured characteristics were based on 30 measurements per variety per year. Mean differences were significant at the 2% probability level based on a Student`s t-test.
