Summary: The cotyledon of 'PR4CN610' is shorter than that of '5440' whereas it is wider than that of 'PPS02-364' and 'PPS04-205'. The petal of 'PR4CN610' is longer than that of 'PPS04-205' whereas it is shorter than that of 'PPS02-364'. The silique attitude of 'PR4CN610' is semi-erect whereas it is horizontal for '5440'. The silique and pedicel of 'PR4CN610' are longer than those of 'PPS04-205'. 'PR4CN610' has a shorter beak than the reference varieties. 'PR4CN610' matures earlier than the reference varieties. At maturity, the plant of 'PR4CN610' is shorter than that of '5440' whereas it is taller than that of 'PPS04-205'.

AGRONOMIC CHARACTERISTICS: medium to good resistance to lodging
QUALITY CHARACTERISTICS: erucic acid is 0.02% of total fatty acids, oil content is 47.4% of whole dried seed, protein is 37.9% of dried oil free meal, very low glucosinolates (9.6 µmol/g)
HERBICIDE REACTION: resistant to glufosinate ammonium herbicides
DISEASE REACTION: resistant to Blackleg (Leptosphaeria maculans asexual stage: Phoma lingam)
Origin & Breeding History: 'PR4CN610' is a restorer line in the process of F1 hybrid production. It was derived as a double haploid line containing the Rf3 gene in homozygous state. The cross was made at Bayer CropScience in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada in 2006 with the doubled haploid line being extracted in 2011. 'PR4CN610' was selected in 2014 on the basis of fertility restoration of numerous male sterile lines and expression of tolerance to glufosinate-ammonium herbicide. Other selection parameters included height, vigour, maturity, blackleg resistance, oil content, fatty acid profile, glucosinolate content and combining ability.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'PR4CN610' were conducted during the summers of 2015 and 2016 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. They were set up in a RCB Design with 3 replications per variety. Each year, the plots consisted of 3 rows that were 6 metres in length with a spacing of 25 cm between rows and 50 cm between plots. The measured characteristics were based on 30 measurements of the cotyledon, leaf, flower and plant height and 60 measurements of the silique. The means were based on a two year average. Mean differences were significant at the 2% probability level based on LSD values.
