Variety Description
Varieties used for comparison: 'G00010BC' and 3MB0K8NH'
Summary: The margin indentations on the leaf of 3MB07TNH' are shallow whereas they are of a medium depth for G00010BC'. The plants of 3MB07TNH' mature later than the plants of G00010BC' and 3MB0K8NH'.
Description:
PLANT: male fertile inbred line, open pollinated spring type, medium height at maturity
COTYLEDON: medium width
LEAF: light green, few lobes, undulating margin, shallow depth of margin indentations, short, narrow to medium width, short petiole
FLOWER PETAL: yellow, touching petal spacing
ANTHER: pollen production present
SILIQUE: semi-erect to horizontal attitude, medium length, medium width, medium length beak, medium length pedicel
Origin & Breeding History: 3MB07TNH' is a maintainer inbred line developed by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc. using a double haploid plant breeding method. The variety originated from a cross between two proprietary inbred lines conducted in April of 2013 in Georgetown, Ontario, Canada. The resulting F1 generation was subject to the double haploidization process in 2014. The double haploid DH1 lines were evaluated in a Manitoba field nursery in 2015 and 2016. In 2017, one double haploid DH1 line designated as 3MB07TNH' was selected based on pod density, branching, pod number and size, lodging resistance, time of flowering, time of maturity and seed quality such as oil, protein and glucosinolate content. Breeder seed production commenced in 2019.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 3MB07TNH' were conducted during the 2023 and 2024 growing seasons in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Trials were arranged in a RCB design with 3 replications per variety. The candidate and reference variety were sown side by side in the first replicate whereas varieties in the second and third replicate were completely randomized. The plots consisted of 2 rows that were 3 metres in length with spacing of 50 cm between rows. The planting density of 26 seeds per metre resulted in a total of 468 plants per variety per year. The measured characteristics were based on 30 measurements per variety per year, except for silique characteristics which were based on 60 measurements per variety per year. Mean differences were significant at the 2% probability level based on LSD values.
