Variety used for comparison: 'Woodward Globe'

Summary: The plants of 'RutThu4' are taller than those of 'Woodward Globe'. The spray of the branchlet of the first order of 'RutThu4' has a semi-erect attitude while that of 'Woodward Globe' has a semi-erect to horizontal attitude. The branchlet of the first order of 'RutThu4' is longer than that of 'Woodward Globe'. The branchlet of penultimate order of 'RutThu4' is longer than that of 'Woodward Globe'. The branch of 'RutThu4' is longer than that of 'Woodward Globe'.

Description:

PLANT: globose shape, medium growth speed, medium density of foliage

BRANCH: erect attitude, medium degree of stiffness
BRANCHLETS OF FIRST ORDER: many, semi-erect attitude of spray

LEAF IN SPRING: main colour is green, no variegation
LEAF IN SUMMER: outer side main colour is medium brown green (closest to RHS 137C-D), inner side main colour is dark green (closest to RHS 137A), no variegation
LEAF IN WINTER: main colour is green, no variegation
SCALE-SHAPED LEAF: narrow acute tip, prominent glands

Origin & Breeding History: 'RutThu4' originated from an open-pollinated cross that occurred in Tifton, Georgia,
USA in 2010. The cross was between the female parent variety 'Filiformis' and an unnamed male parent. The
new variety was selected in 2010 based on plant growth habit, plant health and cold hardiness. Asexual reproduction of 'RutThu4' was first conducted in 2010 in Tifton, Georgia, USA.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'RutThu4' was conducted in an outdoor irrigated container trial during the
spring of 2023 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 10 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All
plants were transplanted into 11.4 litre pots in the summer of 2022. Observations and measurements were taken on August 24, 2023. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
