Origin & Breeding History: 'CDC Palmer' (experimental designation 1041-3) was developed from the cross FLIP97-45c // FLIP97-133c / 95NN-12 carried out in 2004 at the Crop Development Centre at the University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Selections were made in the F3 to F8 generations, where 43 sub-lines were used to establish the breeder seed. Througout the generations, selections were based on yield, seed size, days to flower, days to maturity, plant height and disease resistance. In 2010, 'CDC Palmer' was entered into and evaluated as 1041-3 in Chickpea Regional Trials in western Canada.

Tests & Trials: The tests and trials for 'CDC Palmer' were conducted by the Crop Development Centre of the University of Saskatchewan, at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan during the summers of 2014 and 2015. The trials were conducted using a RCB Design consisting of 2 replications per variety. Each replicate consisted of 3 rows spaced 30 cm apart, with a row length of 3.66 metres and a planting density of 40 seeds per square metre. Measured characteristics were based on 20 measurements per variety per year. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
