Summary: The plants of 'CDC Climax' are taller than the plants of 'CDC Frontier'. The plants of 'CDC Climax' flower later than those of 'CDC Lancer'. The pod of 'CDC Climax' is shorter than the pods of 'CDC Leader' and 'Amit'. The pod of 'CDC Climax' is wider than those of 'Amit', 'CDC Orkney' and 'CDC Lancer'. The pod beak of 'CDC Climax' is longer than that of 'Amit'. The seed of 'CDC Climax' has a round to angular shape with medium to strong ribbing whereas the seed of 'Amit' is round with absent or very weak to weak ribbing. The dry seed weight of 'CDC Climax' is greater than that of 'Amit'. The plants of 'CDC Climax' are tolerant to imazamox herbicide whereas the plants of 'CDC Leader', 'CDC Frontier' and 'Amit' are sesnitive to imazamox herbicide.
Description:
PLANT: erect to semi-erect growth habit after flowering, medium degree of ramification, medium to tall at full pod development, early to mid-season maturity

DRY SEED: beige one month after harvest, medium to high seed weight, round to angular shape, medium to strong ribbing
Origin & Breeding History: 'CDC Climax' (experimental designation 2307-15) originated from the cross between BC74-2 and the F1 of 1041-4 and FLIP95-48C made in 2009 at the Crop Development Centre, University of Saskatchewan, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. A single plant selection was made from the F2 population. Subsequent selections were made in the F3 to F8 generations where 7 F9 sub-lines were used to establish the breeder seed in 2018. Selection criteria included yield, seed weight, seed size, seed coat colour, days to flower, days to maturity, plant height and disease resistance.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trials for 'CDC Climax' were conducted by the Crop Development Centre, University of Saskatchewan, at Elrose, Saskatchewan in 2021 and 2023. The trials were arranged in a RCB design consisting of 2 replications per variety. Each replicate consisted of 3 rows spaced 30 cm apart, with a row length of 3.66 metres and a planting density of 40 seeds per square metre. Measured characteristics were based on 20 measurements per variety per year except for seed weight which was based on 8 measurements per variety per year. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on LSD values. Herbicide tolerance were supported by data provided by the University of Saskatchewan using the methodology as published in Tar`an B. et al. 2014 Theor. Appl. Genet. 127: 1583-1591.
