Summary: The upper surface of the ray floret of 'Yobaton Rouge' is RHS 46A/45A with stripes of yellow (close to RHS 9A) along the margins and at the base with faint longitudinal streaks whereas 'Mobile' is RHS 46A/179A at the distal ends with RHS 9A at the centre. The under surface of the ray floret of 'Yobaton Rouge' is RHS 7B with reddish streaks close to RHS 45A whereas in 'Mobile' it is close to RHS 178A at the distal end and RHS 7B at the proximal end. The plants of 'Yobaton Rouge' are shorter than those of 'Mobile'.
Description:
'Yobaton Rouge' is a year round, pinched, spray pot plant. It is short and develops a medium number of primary lateral shoots after pinching. Stem anthocyanin colouration is weak. Lower leaf lobes are medium in length with parallel margins of sinus between lateral lobes. The leaf base is predominantly truncate in shape. It flowers in 8 weeks with a medium-sized, single, daisy-type flower head. Bracts among florets are absent. The ray florets are straight with rounded tips, flat in cross section with short corolla tubes. Before anther dehiscence, the disc is yellow-green. It is yellow at anther dehiscence. The tubular disc florets are numerous, massed, and clearly visible at all stages of flower head development.
Origin & Breeding History: 'Yobaton Rouge' resulted from the cross of an 'unnamed seedling', code number YB-6083 X 'Penny Lane' made in August, 1993 in Salinas, California. First selections were made in March, 1994. Asexual reproduction began in May, 1994 in Salinas, California.
Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'Yobaton Rouge' were conducted at Yoder Canada Ltd., Leamington, Ontario. Flowering trials were performed under greenhouse conditions which approximate those used in commercial greenhouse practice. The varieties in the flowering trial were grown in 15 cm pots with 4 cuttings per pot, and 10 pots per variety. Cuttings were stuck directly in the final container. Once rooted, cuttings are pinched and moved to short days. Growth regulators are applied as needed to obtain a commercially acceptable plant height.
