Description:
'Yoroanoke' is a year round, pinched, spray pot chrysanthemum variety. The stem has no anthocyanin colouration. The margin of the sinus between the lateral lobes of the leaf are parallel.
'Yoroanoke' flowers in 8 weeks and has a semi-double, daisy type flower head with no bracts among the florets. The ray florets have a short corolla tube. The ray florets are twisted to incurving. In cross section the ray floret are slightly convex. The tips of the ray florets are pointed, emarginate, and dentate in shape. The overall flower colour is lavender-pink. The disc florets are tubular, and yellow-green in colour before anther dehiscence and yellow at anther dehiscence. The distribution of the disc florets is numerous, massed and clearly visible at all stages of flower head development.
Origin & Breeding History: 'Yoroanoke' is a product of a planned breeding program conducted by the breeders in Salinas, California in October 1994. It originated from a cross of the chrysanthemum variety 'Monterey' as the female or seed parent and the chrysanthemum variety 'Rage' as the male or pollen parent. 'Yoroanoke' was discovered and selected as a flowering plant within the progeny of the stated cross in a controlled environment in Fort Myers, Florida. The selection criteria were based on desirable inflorescence form, floret colour, and good post production longevity. Asexual reproduction was initiated in February 1997, by vegetative tip cuttings in a controlled environment in Fort Myers, Florida, USA.
Tests & Trials: Tests and trials were conducted at Yoder Canada Ltd. in Leamington, Ontario in the fall of 2002. Trials were performed under greenhouse conditions which approximate those used in commercial greenhouse practice. Plants in the flowering trial were grown in 15 cm pots with 4 cuttings per pot, and 10 pots per variety. Pots were spaced 30 cm apart. Plants were pinched once prior to short day treatment. Observations and measurements were taken on 10 plants of each variety, and all colour measurements were made using the RHS Colour chart 2001.
