Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Yotobago' (Tobago Red)

Summary: The stipule of ‘CIDZ0092' is absent or very small while that of ‘Yotobago' is large. The petiole and flower head of ‘CIDZ0092' are shorter than those of ‘Yotobago'. The ray floret of ‘CIDZ0092' is wider than that of ‘Yotobago'. The outer side of the ray floret of ‘CIDZ0092' is medium orange pink fading to white with a dark blue pink overlay while that of ‘Yotobago' is brown red with darker brown red overtones.

FLOWER BUD (OUTER SIDE): medium brown purple (RHS 186A) just before opening
FLOWER HEAD: double type, many rows of ray florets, medium to dense ray florets
RAY FLORET: ligulate type only, attitude of basal part ranges between horizontal and horizontal to moderately ascending, two keels on upper surface, short corolla tube, weakly concave to flat in cross-section at widest point, weakly involute rolling of margin at basal quarter to basal half, straight and reflexing along longitudinal axis with very weak curvature along distal quarter, incurving along longitudinal axis of distal quarter with very weak curvature of inner row, medium to high length to width ratio; rounded, emarginate, dentate or mamillate shaped tip
RAY FLORET (INNER SIDE): one colour, dark purple red (RHS 46A) with dark red (RHS N45C) tones when newly opened, medium brown purple (RHS 182A) to light yellow brown (RHS 163C-D) when fully opened, colour is markedly different compared to outer side
RAY FLORET (OUTER SIDE): medium orange pink (RHS N170D) fading to white (RHS NN155A) with dark blue pink (RHS 186C) overlay

Origin & Breeding History: 'CIDZ0092' was discovered as a mutation from the proprietary parent seedling designated ‘B8148' in Gilroy, California, USA on November 16, 2015. It was selected based on its plant structure, flower form and colour, as well as its flowering response time.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for ‘CIDZ0092' was conducted in a greenhouse in St. Catharine's, Ontario in the summer of 2025. Fifty unrooted cuttings were planted into 15 cm pots, with 5 cuttings per pot, 10 pots per variety on June 30, 2025. Plants were pinched on July 14, 2025, prior to short day treatment. Plants were spaced 30 cm apart on July 21, 2025. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on September 10, 2025. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test. Colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) colour chart.
