Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'Yochesapeake' (Chesapeake) and 'CIDZ0095' (Grandview Orange)

Summary: The flower head of ‘CIDZ0098' has fewer ray florets than that of ‘Yochesapeake'. The inner side of the ray floret of ‘CIDZ0098' is medium yellow with light to medium yellow orange tones throughout while that of ‘Yochesapeake' is medium yellow and that of ‘CIDZ0095' is medium yellow with a light orange secondary colour. The disc diameter of ‘CIDZ0098' is smaller than that of ‘Yochesapeake' and larger than that of ‘CIDZ0095'.

FLOWER BUD (OUTER SIDE): medium yellow (RHS 7D) with light to medium yellow orange (RHS 22C-D) tones just before opening
FLOWER HEAD: semi-double daisy type, few rows of ray florets
RAY FLORET: ligulate type only, attitude of basal part is moderately ascending to horizontal, two keels on upper surface, short corolla tube, ranging between weakly concave, flat and weakly convex in cross-section at widest point, flat at middle half, moderately involute rolling of margin at basal quarter, weakly revolute at distal quarter, straight to reflexing along longitudinal axis with weak curvature along the distal quarter, medium length to width ratio, pointed or mamillate shaped tip
RAY FLORET (INNER SIDE): one colour, medium yellow (RHS 5A-B) with light to medium yellow orange (RHS 22C-D) tones, colour is similar compared to outer side
DISC: small to medium sized diameter relative to head diameter, yellowish green with no dark spot at centre before anther dehiscence, yellow orange at anther dehiscence

Origin & Breeding History: 'CIDZ0098' was discovered as a mutation from the proprietary parent seedling designated ‘C0034' in Gilroy, California, USA on November 16, 2015. It was selected based on its plant structure; flower form and colour; as well as flowering response time.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for ‘CIDZ0098' was conducted in a greenhouse in St. Catharine's, Ontario in the summer of 2025. Fifty unrooted cuttings were planted into 15 cm pots, with 5 cuttings per pot, 10 pots per variety on June 30, 2025. Plants were pinched on July 14, 2025 prior to short day treatment. Plants were spaced 30 cm apart on July 21, 2025. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on September 10, 2025. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test. Colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) colour chart.
