Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'Yoauburn' (Auburn Orange) and 'CIDZ0098' (Grandview Butterscotch)

Summary: The plants of ‘CIDZ0101' are shorter than those of ‘Yoauburn'. Including the petiole, the leaf of ‘CIDZ0101' is longer than that of both reference varieties. The flower head of ‘CIDZ0101' is smaller in diameter than that of both reference varieties. The ray floret of ‘CIDZ0101' is smaller than that of ‘Yoauburn'. The inner side of the ray floret of ‘CIDZ0101' is mainly medium yellow with a light yellow brown secondary colour while that of ‘Yoauburn' is mainly light yellow brown to medium yellow with a medium brown purple to red pink secondary colour with a medium brown purple overlay and that of ‘CIDZ0098' is medium yellow with light to medium yellow orange tones and no secondary colour.

LEAF: medium to high length to width ratio, medium length terminal lobe relative to leaf length, obtuse to rounded base, absent or weak glossiness of upper side, medium green upper side, medium to many deep indentations of margin
LOWEST LATERAL SINUS: shallow to medium depth, parallel margins

FLOWER BUD (OUTER SIDE): medium yellow (RHS 9B) just before opening
FLOWER HEAD: semi-double daisy type, few rows of ray florets
RAY FLORET: ligulate type only, attitude of basal part is moderately ascending, two keels on upper surface, very short corolla tube, weakly convex in cross-section at widest point, moderately revolute rolling of margin at middle half, reflexing along longitudinal axis with weak curvature along the distal quarter, medium to high length to width ratio, truncate to weakly dentate shaped tip
RAY FLORET (INNER SIDE): two colours, mainly medium yellow (RHS 6A-B), flushed light yellow brown (RHS 162A) secondary colour at tip and throughout as it ages, colour is similar compared to outer side
RAY FLORET (OUTER SIDE): medium to dark blue pink (RHS 186C-D) with light yellow (brighter than RHS 4D)
DISC: small to medium sized diameter relative to head diameter, slightly domed in cross-section, yellowish green with no dark spot at centre before anther dehiscence, yellow orange at anther dehiscence

Origin & Breeding History: 'CIDZ0101' originated from a controlled cross conducted between two proprietary breeding lines, the female parent designated ‘B7017' and the male parent designated ‘B7967', conducted in Gilroy, California, USA in October 2013. The resulting seed was sown in August 2014. A single unique seedling was selected in January 2015 based on its plant growth habit; flower type and colour; as well as its flowering response time.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for ‘CIDZ0101' was conducted in a greenhouse in St. Catharine's, Ontario in the summer of 2025. Fifty unrooted cuttings were planted into 15 cm pots, with 5 cuttings per pot, 10 pots per variety on June 30, 2025. Plants were pinched on July 14, 2025 prior to short day treatment. Plants were spaced 30 cm apart on July 21, 2025. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on September 10, 2025. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test. Colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) colour chart.
