Variety Description

Varieties used for comparison: 'Newark Pink Bicolour' and 'CIDZ0116' (Neptune Pink)

Summary: The plants of ‘CIDZ0115' are taller than those of both reference varieties. Along the longitudinal axis, the ray floret from the inner row of ‘CIDZ0115' is incurving while that of ‘Newark Pink Bicolour' is straight. The ray floret of ‘CIDZ0115' is longer than that of ‘Newark Pink Bicolour' and narrower than that of ‘CIDZ0116'. The outer side of the ray floret from the inner row of ‘CIDZ0116' is light violet while that of ‘Newark Pink Bicolour' is dark purple and that of ‘CIDZ0116' is white with light violet at the tip.

FLOWER BUD (OUTER SIDE): light violet (RHS 75A-B) just before opening
FLOWER HEAD: double type, many rows of ray florets
RAY FLORET: dense, spatulate type only, attitude of basal part is weakly ascending, two keels on upper surface, long corolla tube, strongly concave in cross-section at widest point, weakly involute rolling of margin at middle half, straight with some incurving along longitudinal axis with weak curvature at distal quarter, inner rows incurving along longitudinal axis with weak to medium curvature at distal half, high length to width ratio, truncate to emarginate shaped tip
RAY FLORET (INNER SIDE): two colours, mainly light violet (RHS 75A, N75D), flecked and striped diffusely with a lighter violet (RHS 76C-D) secondary colour throughout, colour is similar compared to outer side, colour of inner rows is markedly different
RAY FLORET (OUTER SIDE): inner rows light to dark violet (as dark as RHS 77A, 75A, 76B)

Origin & Breeding History: 'CIDZ0115' originated from a controlled cross conducted between two proprietary breeding lines, the female parent designated ‘B9327', and the male parent designated ‘C0151' conducted in Gilroy, California, USA in October 2017. The resulting seed was sown in July 2018. A single unique seedling was selected in December 2018 based on its flower type and colour, as well as its flowering response time.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for ‘CIDZ0115' was conducted in a greenhouse in St. Catharine's, Ontario in the summer of 2025. Fifty unrooted cuttings were planted into 15 cm pots, with 5 cuttings per pot, 10 pots per variety on June 30, 2025. Plants were pinched on July 14, 2025 prior to short day treatment. Plants were spaced 30 cm apart on July 21, 2025. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on September 10, 2025. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test. Colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) colour chart.
