Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Milton Pink Bicolor'

Summary: Including the petiole, the leaf of ‘CIFZ0119' is shorter than that of ‘Milton Pink Bicolor'. The flower head of ‘CIFZ0119' is larger in diameter than that of ‘Milton Pink Bicolor'. The main colour of the inner side of the ray floret of ‘CIFZ0119' is medium purple to dark blue pink while that of ‘Milton Pink Bicolor' is lighter medium purple.

FLOWER BUD (OUTER SIDE): light yellow (RHS 2D) with dark blue pink (RHS N74C) overlay on upper half just before opening
FLOWER HEAD: semi-double daisy type, few to medium number of rows of ray florets
RAY FLORET: ligulate type only, attitude of basal part is moderately ascending, two keels on upper surface, very short corolla tube, moderately concave in cross-section at widest point; rolling of margin ranging between flat, weakly involute at basal quarter and moderately revolute at distal half; straight with some weak twisting along longitudinal axis with medium degree of curvature along the distal half, straight along longitudinal axis of inner rows, medium to high length to width ratio, emarginate and mamillate shaped tip
RAY FLORET (INNER SIDE): two colours, mainly medium purple to dark blue pink (as dark as RHS NN78A-B, as light as N74C), diffused stripes to almost solid white (RHS NN155C) secondary colour at basal half to basal quarter, colour is similar compared to outer side
DISC: small diameter relative to head diameter, strongly domed in cross-section, medium yellowish green with no dark spot at centre before anther dehiscence, yellow orange at anther dehiscence

Origin & Breeding History: 'CIFZ0119' was discovered as a mutation from the proprietary parent seedling designated ‘C0411' in Alva, Florida, USA in July of 2018. It was selected based on its flower type, colour and colour pattern; as well as its flowering response time.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for ‘CIFZ0119' was conducted in a greenhouse in St. Catharine's, Ontario in the summer of 2025. Fifty unrooted cuttings were planted into 15 cm pots, with 5 cuttings per pot, 10 pots per variety on June 30, 2025. Plants were pinched on July 14, 2025 prior to short day treatment. Plants were spaced 30 cm apart on July 21, 2025. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of each variety on September 10, 2025. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test. Colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) colour chart.
