Origin & Breeding History: The variety 'Bonchryki' originated from a controlled pollination made at Yellow Rock, New South Wales, Australia in 2006. The female parent was a proprietary line designated 00-58, which was crossed with pollen from several proprietary male lines. Seeds from the cross were germinated and grown to maturity. One plant was selected by the breeder on March 2, 2007 and propagated by cuttings. A pot trial was carried out from March 2007 to September 2008 where the variety was determined to be distinct, uniform and stable in its characteristics.
Tests & Trials: Trials for 'Bonchryki' were conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2010 in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of fifteen plants of the candidate and reference varieties. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 11 cm pots on May 5, 2010. Observations and measurements were taken from ten plants or parts of plants on June 15, 2010. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
