A single seedling was selected from the resultant progeny in 2004 based on its abundant flowering, long flowering period and flower colour. 'Sweet Summer Love' was first propagated asexually by cuttings in June 2004 in Pruszków, Poland.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'Sweet Summer Love' was conducted in an outdoor trellised trial during the summer of 2015 at BioFlora Inc. in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included 8 plants of the candidate variety and 6 plants of the reference variety. All plants were grown from young plants transplanted into 4.4 liter containers on April 3, 2014 and field planted in the fall of 2014. Observations and measurements were taken from 6 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of the reference variety on July 8, 2015 and from 8 plants, or 10 parts of plants, of the candidate variety on July 15, 2015. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
