Summary: 'Sedona' produces a larger plant than 'Freckles'. 'Sedona' has a larger leaf blade with a longer petiole length than 'Freckles'. 'Sedona' has a different leaf colour than 'Freckles'.

Description:

'Sedona' has a bushy-rounded growth habit with a medium degree of branching. The stem is light green in colour with streaks of medium to strong anthocyanin colouration. The stem has no glaucosity, is medium to thick and square in shape.

'Sedona' has ovate shaped leaves with a narrow acute apex which is blunt at the tip. The leaf base is mainly truncate in shape. The leaf margin is crenate with medium to deep incisions. The upper side of the leaf blade has medium pubescence and the lower side has medium to strong pubescence. There is no glaucosity on the upper side of the leaf blade. The leaf blade is variegated with a large amount of secondary colour giving the leaf a mottled appearance. There is a petiole present.

Origin & Breeding History: 'Sedona' was discovered as a whole plant mutation of the coleus variety 'Freckles' in October 2001 at Carleton, Michigan, United States. The variety was selected by the breeders due to its unique colours, uniformity and vigorous performance. 'Sedona' was first propagated in October 2001 by vegetative tip cuttings.

Tests & Trials: 'Sedona' was tested in St. Thomas, Ontario in the winter/spring of 2003. The plants were grown in a polyhouse and included 20 plants of the candidate and reference variety. Unrooted cuttings were stuck in 5 cm cell packs on January 13, 2003 and transplanted into 15 cm pots on March 7, 2003. Measured characteristics were based on ten measurements and colour determinations were made using the 2001 RHS Colour chart.
