Variety used for comparison: 'Main Street Beale Street'

Summary: The stem of 'G18152' is light green with medium intensity of anthocyanin colouration whereas that of 'Main Street Beale Street' is dark red purple with very strong anthocyanin colouration. The leaf blades of 'G18152' are smaller than those of 'Main Street Beale Street'. The base of the leaf blade of 'G18152' is truncate whereas that of 'Main Street Beale Street' is obtuse. The margin and area between the veins on the upper side of the leaf blade of 'G18152' is dark brown and black whereas that for 'Main Street Beale Street' is dark brown to dark purple red. The midrib and secondary veins on the upper side of the leaf blade of 'G18152' are a darker dark purple than those of 'Main Street Beale Street'. The lower side of the leaf blade of 'G18152' is dark brown whereas that of 'Main Street Beale Street' is dark brown purple. The anthocyanin colouration on the petiole of 'G18152' ranges from weak to medium intensity whereas that of 'Main Street Beale Street' is very strong.

LEAF BLADE (UPPER SIDE): medium density pubescence, dark brown (RHS N77A) and black (RHS N186A-B) between veins and along margin, dark purple (RHS N79B) midrib, dark purple (RHS N79A) secondary veins
LEAF BLADE (LOWER SIDE): absent or very sparse pubescence between veins, medium to dense pubescence on veins, dark brown (closest to RHS N77A)
PETIOLE: anthocyanin colouration ranging from weak to medium intensity

Origin & Breeding History: 'G18152' originated from an open pollinated cross conducted by the breeder in September 2017 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, USA. The cross was made between the female parent, an unnamed proprietary seedling, and pollen from the male parent, an unknown seedling. The new variety was selected in August 2018 based on its flowering time, stem colour, leaf colour, branching habit and leaf size. Asexual reproduction of 'G18152' was first conducted by vegetative cuttings in August 2018 in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, USA.

Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for 'G18152' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2022 at Bioflora Inc., in St. Thomas, Ontario. The trial included a total of 15 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 15cm pots on April 7, 2022. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or parts of 10 plants of each variety on June 9, 2022. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test.
