Variety Description
Variety used for comparison: '3AZA1'
Summary: The glume tips and bodies of 'I325350' have no anthocyanin colouration whereas it is weak in '3AZA1'. The branches of the tassels of 'I325350' are semi-erect whereas they are semi-erect to horizontal in '3AZA1'. The silks of 'I325350' are green with a hint of pink and tan whereas the silks of '3AZA1' are green. The ears of 'I325350' are longer than those of '3AZA1'.
Description:
'I325350' is an inbred corn variety. At inflorescence emergence, the angle of the leaf with the stalk is semi-erect (30-40 ). After male flowering, the leaf blade is medium in width with no anthocyanin colouration of the sheath. There are few leaves per stem (11 - 13) with no anthocyanin colouration of the stem nodes and internodes.
Tassel emergence and male flowering is mid-season for 'I325350'. There is no anthocyanin colouration on the ring at the base of the glumes, at the tips and on the bodies of the glumes and on the anthers. At the end of male flowering, the main axis above the lowest side branch and above the upper side branch is medium to long. Branches on the main axis of the tassel are sparse to intermediate. There are few (3-10) semi-erect lateral branches with a medium size angle (30-60 ) between the main axis and lateral branches.
Anthocyanin colouration of the silks is absent one to two days after emergence and green with touches of pink and tan, two to three days after emergence. The shank or peduncle is very long. There is a medium to high amount of plants with ear wings. The ear of 'I325350' is cylindrical-conical in shape with a small to medium diameter in the middle-third of the ear including and excluding kernels. There are few rows of kernels (10-12). Anthocyanin colouration of cob glumes is present. The wedge-shaped kernels of 'I325350' are a flint/dent type (50/50%) and yellow-orange in colour on the dorsal side. The kernel tip is yellow.
Origin & Breeding History: 'I325350' was derived from the cross of the inbred lines '3AVB3' and '3AZA1' made in the summer of 1994. Seed was grown and selfed from 1994 to 2000 with the final selection made and bulked in summer 1994. Selection criteria included greater combining ability, improved stalk quality, plant health, intactness and grain quality.
Tests & Trials: Tests and trials for 'I325350' were conducted at London, Ontario in 2001 and 2002. The trials consisted of two replicates with two rows per replicate. The rows were 4.5 meters long with approximately 22 plants per row.
