Summary: The plants of 'Queen Mini Star' are shorter than those of 'Queenstar'. The plants of 'Queen Mini Star' have many fruit whereas those of 'Queenstar' have a medium number of fruit. The fruit skin of 'Queen Mini Star' is a darker red than that of 'Queenstar'.
Description:
STEM: dark green
LEAF BLADE: upper side is dark green, lower side is medium green, elliptic, strong glossiness when newly opened, weak to medium glossiness when fully opened, concave in cross section, weak undulation of margin, crenate margin, acuminate tip
PEDICEL: medium green with little purple spots
FLOWER: many, star-shaped
COROLLA LOBE: white (RHS NN155B) with little purple stripes
ANTHER: yellow, spatulate
STYLE: light yellow
FRUIT: many, oblate, flat at blossom end, red (RHS N45A) skin
Origin & Breeding History: 'Queen Mini Star' originated as a naturally occurring whole plant mutation of the variety 'Queenstar' discovered in 's-Gravenzande, the Netherlands in July of 2014. The new variety 'Queen Mini Star' was finally selected in December 2016 based on its growth habit and berry colour.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Queen Mini Star' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2018/3262, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, Angers, France. The trials were conducted by the Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, The Netherlands in 2020. Colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
