Variety Description

Variety used for comparison: 'Quayal'

Summary: The plants of ‘Quabon' have a short to medium length of the first 15 internodes while that of ‘Quayal' is short. The plants of ‘Quabon' have predominantly three or four female flowers per node while that of ‘Quayal' has predominantly two or three female flowers per node. The leaves of ‘Quabon' are short and dark green while those of ‘Quayal' are very short to short and dark to very dark green. The peduncles of ‘Quabon' have a medium length while that of ‘Quayal' have a short to medium length.

Description:

PLANT: produces Beth Alpha type fruit, gynoecious sex expression, predominantly three or four female flowers per node, parthenocarpy present, indeterminate growth type, first 15 internodes are short to medium length

COTYLEDON: no bitterness

LEAF BLADE: horizontal attitude, short, small to medium ratio of terminal lobe length in relation to blade length, shape of apex of terminal lobe is right-angled, dark intensity of green on upper side, weak to medium degree of blistering, absent or weak undulation of margin, very weak to weak dentation of margin

TIME OF DEVELOPMENT OF FEMALE FLOWERS (WHEN 80% OF PLANTS HAVE AT LEAST ONE FEMALE FLOWER): early to mid-season
OVARY VESTITURE: white

PEDUNCLE: medium length
FRUIT: very short to short, small diameter, small length to diameter ratio, medium to large core diameter in relation to diameter of fruit, round shape in transverse section, shape of stem end is obtuse, shape of calyx end is rounded, absent or weak ribs, no sutures, very weak degree of creasing, no warts, absent or very short stripes, no dots
FRUIT VESTITURE: prickles only type, sparse to medium density of prickles, white
FRUIT SKIN: green ground colour at market stage, medium to dark intensity of ground colour of skin, very weak to weak glaucosity, yellow ground colour at time of physiological ripening

DISEASE REACTIONS: resistance to Cladosporium cucumerinum (Ccu) and Cucumber Vein Yellowing Virus (CVYV) present; highly resistant to Cucumber Mosaic Virus (CMV) and powdery mildew (Podosphaera xanthii) (Px); no resistance to Corynespora blight and Target leaf spot (Corynespora cassiicola) (Cca)

Origin & Breeding History: 'Quabon' (breeders reference 19-SH744 RZ) originated from a cross made in the spring of 2020, in the Netherlands. The resulting hybrid was selected for its plant habit, fruit quality, fruit length, and fruit taste.

Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Quabon' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number KMK1524, purchased from Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands. The trial was conducted by Naktuinbouw in Roelofarendsveen, Netherlands in 2023.
