Summary: The plants of 'Mirjam Greencrest' are taller than the plants of 'Wilma Goldcrest'. The main stem of 'Mirjam Greencrest' is medium brown whereas that of 'Wilma Goldcrest' is grey. The spray of 'Mirjam Greencrest' is medium to dark green whereas the spray of 'Wilma Goldcrest' is yellow green to yellow.
Description:
PLANT: evergreen, strong fragrance, narrow pyramidal shape, medium to fast rate of growth
MAIN STEM: thick, rounded in cross-section, medium brown (RHS 175A)
BRANCH: erect to semi-erect, medium rigidity, medium density, medium brown (RHS 165A) when aged
BRANCHLETS: sparse to medium density, light brown, absent or very weak intensity of anthocyanin colouration, flat first order branchlets, long second order branchlets
SPRAY: erect to semi-erect, medium to dark green
LEAF: imperfectly radial arrangement around branchlet, linear shape, narrow apex, entire margin with involute to flat fold
Origin & Breeding History: 'Mirjam Greencrest' was discovered as a sport mutation of Cupressus macrocarpa 'Wilma Goldcrest' in 2016 in Langley, British Columbia, Canada. Selection was based on foliage colour and rigidity of the stem. Further asexual propagation by stem cutting of 'Mirjam Greencrest' occurred in September 2017.
Tests & Trials: The trials were conducted in a greenhouse in the summer of 2019 in Langley, British Columbia. The trial included a total of 12 plants each of the candidate and reference variety. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings and transplanted into 1 gallon containers. During the trial, plants were 2 years old. Observations and measurements were taken on August 23, 2019. All colour measurements were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
