Origin & Breeding History: Moonlit' originated from a naturally occurring branch mutation of the Chamaecyparis lawsoniana variety Ellwoodii' in November 2018. The new variety was selected at the Vineland Research Station, based on distinct branching, plant architecture, and foliage colour. Asexual reproduction by rooting softwood cuttings was first conducted in November 2018, in Vineland, Ontario.
Tests & Trials: Comparative trials for Moonlit' were conducted in an indoor container trial during 2023 and 2024 in Vineland, Ontario. The trial included a total of 12 plants of the candidate variety and reference variety. Plants were grown individually in 10 cm pots spaced 2 cm apart. Observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants or parts of plants of each variety in 2024.
