Summary: The main colour of the inner side of the ray floret of 'Dafireogtyve' is purple whereas the inner side of the ray floret of 'Bahia' is dark purple red.
Description:
PLANT: semi-upright growth habit, very short
STEM: green
LEAF: predominantly simple type, absent or weak prominence of wing, very short to short (including petiole), very narrow to narrow, very high length to width ratio, medium green on upper side, very weak to weak glossiness on upper side, smooth or very weakly rugose, depressed veins
LEAFLET: ovate shape, obtuse base, medium number of shallow incisions along margin (excluding lobes)
PEDUNCLE: very short to short, green
FLOWER HEAD: positioned moderately above foliage, upright to semi-upright attitude, semi-double daisy type, no collar segments, very small diameter, medium to many ray florets
RAY FLORET: very short, very narrow, low to medium length to width ratio, ribbed on inner side, in cross-section moderately concave at mid-point, weakly revolute rolling of margin along distal quarter, longitudinal axis is weakly incurved along distal quarter, absent or very weak twisting, dentate apex, purple (nearest to 72B but more red) on inner side, main colour of outer side is similar when compared to colour of inner side
DISC: small diameter relative to flower head diameter, yellow before and at time of anther dehiscence
Origin & Breeding History: 'Dafireogtyve' originated from a naturally occurring mutation of the variety 'Bahia'. The mutation was observed in May 2007 as part of a breeding program in Odense, Denmark. The objective of the program was to develop new Dahlia varieties with uniform and compact plant growth habit and colourful flowers. 'Dafireogtyve' was selected in May 2010 for its compact form and free flowering habit.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Dafireogtyve' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2011/2922, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office in Angers, France. The trial was conducted by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany in Cambridge, United Kingdom, in 2012. Colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
