Variety Description
Varieties used for comparison: 'Montana', 'Fidahmayel' and 'Dahlietta Julia'
Summary: The upper side of the leaf of 'Daseksogtyve' has weak glossiness whereas the leaf of 'Fidahmayel' has a medium degree of glossiness. The surface texture of the leaf of 'Daseksogtyve' is smooth or very weakly rugose whereas the leaf of 'Montana' is strongly rugose. The attitude of the flower head of 'Daseksogtyve' is semi-upright whereas the attitude of the flower head is horizontal for 'Fidahmayel'. The flower head of 'Daseksogtyve' has many ray florets whereas the flower head of 'Dahlietta Julia' has a few to medium number of ray florets. The ray floret of 'Daseksogtyve' is short with a mamillate shaped apex whereas the ray floret of 'Montana' is of medium length with a pointed apex. The longitudinal axis of the ray floret of 'Daseksogtyve' is incurving whereas the longitudinal axis of the ray floret of 'Fidahmayel' is reflexing. In cross-section, the profile of the ray floret at its mid-point is moderately concave for 'Daseksogtyve' whereas the profile of the ray floret is weakly concave at its mid-point for 'Dahlietta Julia'. The part of the ray floret with a rolled margin is along the distal half for 'Daseksogtyve' whereas the ray floret of 'Dahlietta Julia' has a rolled margin along its whole length.
Description:
PLANT: semi-upright growth habit, very short to short
STEM: green
LEAF: predominantly simple type, absent or weak prominence of wing, medium to long (including petiole), narrow, very high length to width ratio, medium green on upper side, weak glossiness on upper side, smooth or very weakly rugose surface texture, raised veins
LEAFLET: elliptic shape, obtuse base, few to medium number of deep incisions along margin (excluding lobes)
PEDUNCLE: short to medium length, green
FLOWER HEAD: positioned at same level as foliage, semi-upright attitude, daisy-eyed double type, no collar segments, small diameter, short, many ray florets
RAY FLORET: short, medium to broad, low length to width ratio, ribbed on inner side, in cross-section moderately concave at mid-point, in cross-section weakly concave at three quarter point from base, weakly revolute rolling of margin along distal half, longitudinal axis is weakly incurved along distal half, absent or very weak twisting, mamillate shaped apex, green-yellow (RHS 1A, but slightly less green) on inner side, colour of outer side is similar when compared to colour of inner side
Origin & Breeding History: 'Daseksogtyve' originated from a hybridization between the variety 'Catarina' and a proprietary seedling designated '4440F'. The hybridization was conducted as part of a breeding program, in June of 2006, in the research greenhouse of the breeder, Rune Harboe Nielsen, located in Stige, Denmark. The objectives of the breeding program were to develop new Dahlia varieties with a uniform and compact plant form and colourful, attractive flowers. 'Daseksogtyve' was selected in June of 2007 for its compact plant growth habit and yellow-green coloured flowers.
Tests & Trials: The detailed description of 'Daseksogtyve' is based on the UPOV report of Technical Examination, application number 2012/1129, purchased from the Community Plant Variety Office, in Angers, France. The trial was conducted in 2013 by the National Institute of Agricultural Botany, in Cambridge, United Kingdom. The colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
