Varieties used for comparison: 'Lacrosse' and 'Snowcap'
Summary: The plants of 'LEUZ0001' are broader with an upright-bushy growth habit whereas the plants of 'Lacrosse' have a narrow, upright growth habit. The leaf of 'LEUZ0001' is longer than the leaf of 'Lacrosse'. The flower type of 'LEUZ0001' is semi-double whereas the flower type of the reference varieties is single. The flower head of 'LEUZ0001' has ligulate ray florets and is larger in diameter than the flower head of 'Lacrosse' which has spatulate ray florets. The tip of the ray floret is deeply dentate for 'LEUZ0001' whereas the tip is medium depth dentate for 'Lacrosse' and shallow dentate for 'Snowcap'. The ray floret of 'LEUZ0001' is larger than the ray floret of 'Lacrosse'. The disc of 'LEUZ0001' has petaloid disc florets whereas the disc of the reference varieties do not have petaloid disc florets.

Origin & Breeding History: 'LEUZ0001' was bred and developed by the breeder, Henricus Godefridus Wilhelmus Stemkens, an employee of Syngenta Participations AG, in Enkhuizen, Netherlands, as part of a controlled breeding program. It originated from a cross conducted on August 15, 2006, in Enkhuizen, between a proprietary line designated 'F2764-1', as the female parent, and a proprietary line designated 'F2772-5', as the male parent. From the resulting progeny, 'LEUZ0001' was selected in July 2007 for its semi-double type flowers, early flowering time, compact and freely branching plant growth habit.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial of 'LEUZ0001' was conducted in a polyhouse during the summer of 2015 at BioFlora Inc., in St. Thomas, Ontario. It included a total of 20 plants each of the candidate and reference varieties. All plants were grown from rooted cuttings that were each transplanted into a 4.4 litre container on April 19, 2015. The observations and measurements were taken from 10 plants, or parts of plants, of the candidate and reference varieties on July 7, 2015. All colour determinations were made using the 2007 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
