Summary: The plant of ‘Marshmallow' is shorter than that of ‘Sante'. The leaf of ‘Marshmallow' is shorter than that of ‘Sante'. The flower head of ‘Marshmallow' is narrower than that of ‘Sante'. The ray floret of ‘Marshmallow' has a medium width and medium length to width ratio while that of ‘Sante' is narrow and has a high length to width ratio.

FLOWER: mid-season flowering, medium length flowering period, head type inflorescence, terminal in position, low to medium flower head height

Origin & Breeding History: 'Marshmallow' originated from a hybridization made in July 2015 at Walters Gardens in Zeeland, Michigan, USA. The cross was between the varieties 'Sante' and 'Banana Cream'. The initial selection was made in the spring of 2016, based on criteria for flower type, plant habit, plant branching, and disease resistance.
Tests & Trials: The comparative trial for ‘Marshmallow' was conducted during the summer of 2025 in Oxford Station, Ontario. Plants of each variety were grown outdoors in 16 cm pots under a galvanized steel structure covered with black mesh shade fabric. Plants were spaced approximately 45 cm apart. Observations and measurements were taken on 15 plants of each variety. Mean differences were significant at the 5% confidence probability level based on a paired Student's t-test. All colour determinations were made using the 2015 Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Colour Chart.
